The Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals is proud to announce the selection of Arthur Davis, Principal of Paducah Tilghman High School, as the KASSP Principal of the Year. This is the highest award given to a secondary principal by KASSP.
Art was commissioned second Lieutenant in the United States Army Active Reserves in 1983 from Murray State University. He graduated from officer’s basic course in Fort Knox, Kentucky the next year. He began his teaching career in 1985 as the county wide band director in Paris, Tennessee. Art moved to Metropolis, Illinois in 1988 and became the band director at Massac County High School. In 1992, Art was hired as the band director at Paducah Tilghman High School. As band director, his band won many accolades including national recognition.
In 1997, Art became the Assistant Principal of Student Activities and, in 2003, he was named Principal of Paducah Tilghman High School. A native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Art received his undergraduate training at Murray State University and his Master’s Degree from Southern Illinois University. He has completed a Rank I. Art serves as an adjunct music professor at Shawnee Community College. In addition, he is also a commissioner on the Paducah Human Rights Board. Davis is a member of Omega Phi Psi Fraternity. He has served as President of the Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals. Art is a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He is married to Anitha Davis and they have four children and several grandchildren.
Art was formally introduced as the recipient of the KASSP Principal of the Year Award at the KASSP summer conference at the Galt House in Louisville on July 16, 2013. He is a contender for the national NASSP Principal of the Year award.
